Crafting brings joy, creativity, and sometimes… clutter! If your craft supplies start taking over your space, it’s time for a mindful decluttering session. Let’s simplify your creative corner so you can spend more time making and less time searching for supplies.

Craft supplies on a table: colorful beads in a purple tray, vibrant paint pots, and smiley face stickers create a playful mood.

1. Start with the Why

Why do you craft? Whether it’s relaxation, a side business, or a creative outlet, keeping this in mind will help you decide what stays and what goes. If an item doesn’t align with your crafting goals, it might be time to let it go.

2. Sort and Categorize

Pull everything out and combine similar items—fabric, paints, papers, beads, etc. Seeing everything at once helps you realize what you have (and what you’ve been hoarding!).

3. Use the 3-Box Method

Label three boxes:

Keep – Items you use often and love.

Donate/Sell – Supplies in good condition that you no longer need.

Trash – Dried-out paints, broken tools, or scraps too small to use.

4. Be Honest About Your Projects

We all have that unfinished project we thought we’d complete one day. If it’s been sitting there for months (or years), ask yourself: “Will I really finish this?” If the answer is no, consider repurposing, donating, or passing it along to a fellow crafter.

5. Organize What You Keep

Now that you’ve decluttered, it’s time to organize! Try these storage tips:

  • Clear bins or jars – Easily see what you have.

  • Drawer dividers – Keep small items like beads, buttons, and thread in check.

  • Vertical storage – Use pegboards, hanging baskets, or wall-mounted shelves to free up desk space.

  • Label everything – This saves time and prevents duplicate purchases.

6. Set Boundaries for New Supplies

Before buying new supplies, ask yourself:

  • Do I really need this?

  • Do I have space for it?

  • Will I use it in the next month?

If not, hold off on the purchase. Creativity thrives in a clutter-free space!

7. Make Decluttering a Habit

Set a reminder to do a quick craft declutter every few months. Keeping your space tidy will make crafting more enjoyable and stress-free.

Decluttering your crafts doesn’t mean limiting creativity—it means making room for what truly inspires you. What’s the first craft item you’ll declutter today?
